     An overview:

      Ninh Thuan is a coastal province in the South Central with natural area of 3,360km2 and its population of over 520,000 people with the majority of Kinh, Cham and Raglai. Ninh Thuan consists of one capital town Phan Rang - Thap Cham and 4 districts of Ninh Son, Bac Ai, Ninh Hai and Ninh Phuoc with 11 quarters, 3 district towns and 43 communes.

    Ninh Thuan has three major national life-line transport axes: national highway No.27. It is 50 and 105 kilometers from Cam Ranh and Nha Trang respectively to the South, and 110 kilometers from Da Lat to the west. Such geographic location creates favorable conditions for Ninh Thuan to expand ecomomic exchanges, acquire scientific and technical advance and transfer technology with provinces in South East, South Central Highlands, Central Coast and nationwide.

    Ninh Thuan territory is surrounded by mountains to three sides and by the sea to one side. It has three types of topography: hills and mountains (63.2% of total area), midlands (14.4% of total area) and coastal delta (22.4% of total area) with many typical potentials and advantages for development.

    Ninh Thuan has typical climate characteristics and is located in the driest region of the country. It has typical tropical and monsoon climate with the characteristics of being dry, hot, windy and with strong vaporization. It has no winter. The annual average temperature is 26-270C. The average rainfall is 700-800mm in Phan Rang and gradually increases up to 1,100mm by height in mountainous areas. The humidity is 75-77%. There are two seasons: rainy from september to november and dry from december of this year to august of the next year. Climate characteristics allow Ninh Thuan to produce special products with high economic values such as grapes, sugar cane, tobacco, plant, garlic, cows, goats, sheep and large-scale industrial salt production.

     Ninh Thuan has two main river systems that have total basin area of 3,600km2 and receive water from Da Nhim hydrolic lake. This brings stable and very important water source for living and production.

     Ninh Thuan has a 105-kilometer long coast and sea territory of about 18,000km2 that is good for all-year-around production, rich in different kinds of sea products and advantages for infrastructure construction. Three fishing ports have been completed and linked with fishing centers namely Dong Hai, Ninh Chu and My Tan fishing port. There are a number of potentials for the development of tourism and industry for sea mineral resource exploitation, and all-year-around beautiful and clean bathing beaches.

     Located in a high temperature and radition intensity, Ninh Thuan has its ideal conditions for salt production. The capacity for salt-producing area may reach 3,000-4,000ha, concentrated in Dam Vua, Ca Na, Quan The and onshore Khanh Hai town. The annual yeild may reach 400-500 thousand tons.

    The land stock potential for agricultural development in Ninh Thuan province is relatively large. The unused land area is 104.1 thousand ha (accounting for 31% of total natural area) in which about 92 thousand ha of bare land and 1,044 ha of non-use water surface. 60.4 thousand ha of agricultural land have been in use and can be expanded by about 46 thousand ha for the establishement of specialized growing area for various cash crops like cotton, tobacco, sugarcane, etc. Coastal sandy is suitable for growing date and neem plants for industry.

    Ninh Thuan’s forest plays very important roles in socio-economic development and eco-environment upgrading, and is one of advantages that needs to be exploited in the future. It has the timber reserve of 11 million m3 and 2.5 million of bamboo. 58.5 thousand ha of forests for production and 98.9 thousand ha of protection forests have the timber reserve of 4.5 million m3 and 5.5 million m3 respectively.

    Mineral products in Ninh Thuan are relatively diverse, including several kinds of high reserve that can be exploited on large-scale industrial scale: granite stone of 850 million m3 and some high value natural products like mineral water in Tan Son and Nhi Ha, and silicate in Thanh Tin etc,.

    Ninh Thuan has potential for diverse and unique tourism with. It has many beautiful and famous bathing beaches that can be used for the whole year, like Binh Tien, Ninh Chu and Ca Na. The province still keeps and preserves quite a few architechtural and cultural Champa relics that are linked with Cham group’s traditional festivals. The diversity of topography creates many eco areas with unique beauty spots like Ngoan Muc pass, Vinh Hy bay, hot water spring, Tien fall etc., that are of advantage for the development of sea and cultural tourism as well as eco and relaxing tours./.
